St. Mary's Healthcare Clinical Laboratory Manager in Amsterdam, New York

Job Requisition: REQ2713 Employment Type: Full time Shift: Days Hours Per Week: 40 hours

Hiring Range : $ 41.61 - $54.10

The actual compensation for this position will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

Responsibilities

· Oversee all aspects of laboratory operations including pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical sample processing, testing procedures, quality control, and result reporting.

· Develop and implement laboratory protocols and procedures to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with regulatory standards.

· Monitor equipment performance, maintenance schedules, and inventory levels to ensure uninterrupted laboratory services.

· Collaborate with other departments to coordinate specimen collection, transportation, and testing processes.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

· Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and accreditation standards (e.g., CLIA, TJC, NYSDOH) through regular audits, proficiency testing, and quality assurance programs.

· Responsible for laboratory monthly informatics data collection of KPI and metrics of QC, QA, TAT, blood culture contamination rate, and pre-analytical variables. Prepare the laboratory for regulatory compliance survey such as TJC and NYSDOH.

· Investigate and resolve any deviations, incidents, or non-conformities identified during quality control measures.

· Implement corrective and preventive actions to address quality issues and improve laboratory processes.

· Stay updated on advancements in laboratory technology, regulations, and best practices to maintain compliance and enhance laboratory operations.

Staff Management and Development: · Responsible for working with the Human Resources Department in the hiring/interview/onboarding process. Determines, coordinates and supervises daily staffing assignments and staffing levels. Trains, coaches, and evaluates assigned staff on performance expectations. Applies progressive discipline when appropriate. Participates in hiring and termination procedures. · Complete annual and probationary evaluations and required employee job competency documentation. · Responsible for managing the review and approval of the timekeeping system, including but not limited to, time off requests, and bi-weekly payroll sign-off. Responsible for managing staff meal breaks to be in compliance with NYS labor law. · Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous learning within the laboratory team

Financial Management: · Develop and manage the laboratory budget, including forecasting expenses, monitoring costs, and optimizing resource utilization. · Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements to maximize operational efficiency while maintaining high-quality standards. · Evaluate and procure laboratory equipment, supplies, and services in alignment with budgetary constraints and operational needs.

Emergency Response and Crisis Management: · Serve as the primary point of contact for laboratory-related emergencies and crisis situations, including after-hours and weekends. · Develop and maintain emergency response protocols and contingency plans to ensure continuity of laboratory services during disruptions or disasters. · Coordinate with hospital administration, clinical staff, and external agencies as needed to mitigate risks and resolve emergency situations promptly. Continuous Improvement and Strategic Planning: · Lead initiatives for process optimization, workflow redesign, and technology integration to enhance laboratory efficiency and productivity. · Collaborate with hospital and laboratory leadership to develop strategic plans and initiatives aligned with organizational goals and priorities. · Monitor key performance indicators and metrics to evaluate laboratory performance, identify areas for improvement, and drive continuous quality improvement efforts. · Exhibits innovation in planning improvements, promoting new programs and problem solving in area of responsibility. · Values and responds to customer feedback by taking corrective action or improving suboptimal services. · In accordance with department expectations responds to emails in a timely manner.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in clinical laboratory management, with demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills. In-depth knowledge of clinical and anatomical pathology laboratory operations, regulatory requirements, and quality management systems.

Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed to support 24/7 laboratory operations.

Must be able to speak, read, write and follow instructions in English.

Certifications / Licensure Certification from ASCP or AMT as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) and Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT) preferred by NYSDOE.
