Sutter Health Chief Medical Executive Full Time Day Shift in Antioch, California

Position Overview:

The Chief Medical Executive (CME) is a key member of the Sutter Delta Medical Center's Administrative Team and is responsible for medical affairs and providing administration (at hospital, regional and system level) and medical staff with knowledge, experience and leadership from a medical management perspective. The position facilitates communication and understanding among the various clinical components of the delivery system, assuring the provision of high quality, efficient and safe care.

The position participates in strategic planning at the affiliate, regional and system level. The position participates in physician contracting. Sutter Delta Medical Center is a LEAN organization and operates utilizing the Sutter Improvement System process.

LEAN experience is preferred but not required.

In this role, he/she works intimately with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Nurse Executive (CNE), the Administrative Director of Ancillary Services, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) other members of the senior leadership team and the operating unit Chief of Staff to assure better, safer care, and enhance the environment for practicing clinicians with the goal of providing patient centered, perfect care.


Education, Licensures and Certifications:

  • Bachelors Required

  • Master's Preferred

  • Doctorate Degree (M.D. or D.O.) Required

  • Eligible for California Physician licensure Required

  • Board Certification or Board Eligible Preferred


  • Previous experience in a leadership role in a medical staff structure, such as functioning as a Medical Executive Committee member. At least five years’ experience as department chair, medical director, committee chair or chief of staff

  • Demonstrated team leadership and organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Strong action planning skills, interpersonal skills and proven written and verbal communication skills are required. Flexibility, adaptability, motivation and creativity in dealing with change, timeliness and attention to detail are required as well

  • Ability to read, write, hear and verbally communicate in English to the degree required to perform the job

  • Must be able to travel in and out of Contra Costa County, including transcontinental travel. If Sutter Delta Medical Center and/or own vehicle used or company business, must possess valid California Driver’s License and upon request proof of liability insurance

  • MBA, MME, MHA, or MPH or Sutter Health Leadership Academy preferred.
