Sutter Health Insurance / Medical Records Specialist - Home Health and Hospice (Per Diem) in Auburn, California

Position Overview:

Under the general supervision of the Operations Supervisor, the I nsurance /Medical Records Specialist provides clerical support to the clinical and support teams which include RN Case Managers, Staff RN’s and Rehab staff. Completes and processes specific insurance authorization and admission paperwork, provides accurate and timely processing of all clinical staff daily record visits with appropriate follow-up for variances, and audits medical records at specified times for adherence to regulations. Assists with Oasis Data Input as requested by Operations Supervisor. Other duties may include filing, faxing, phone duties and other clerical tasks, as assigned.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

· Education/ Licensure / Certification:

High school graduate or equivalent with developed clerical and computer skills.

Additional course work in medical terminology is required.

California driver’s license and access to a reliable automobile with proof of liability insurance or the ability to secure transportation to perform this work.

· Experience:

Prior experience dealing with medical insurance companies via phone and the web to check eligibility, benefits, and obtain authorization for needed medical services.

Medical office experience (not necessarily a doctor's office; could be a medical supplier, other home health agency, etc.)

General clerical experience that would normally be acquired over two years, preferably in a health care organization office setting. Computer data entry experience required. Insurance authorization experience preferred.

· Knowledge:

Knowledge of general office practices and procedures including filing, record keeping and photocopying/faxing. Knowledge of home health practices and medical terminology required. Must have ability to perform word processing and working knowledge of Word.

Special Skills/Equipment:

Proficiency in typing 55wpm as well as ability to perform accurate computer data entry is required.

Must be able to alphabetize, spell, track, and sort a file accurately.

Must be able to prioritize workload, work with minimal supervision, organize and complete tasks in a timely manner.

Must be able to exercise good judgement related to urgent paperwork needs for timely delivery of care.
