Description

JOB SUMMARY: A Director of Experiential Education is a full-time, twelve-month, non-tenure track position in the Doctor of Pharmacy program. The position requires a full commitment to overseeing the delivery of the clinical portion of the curriculum, which includes Intermediate Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE). The LECOM School of Pharmacy is accredited by ACPE with a curriculum that is delivered in a three-year accelerated, and traditional four-year and distance education pathway. The position may require didactic teaching as well as fulfilling the duties of a faculty member as outlined below. The faculty member must be willing to be a part of a dynamic program and supportive of collaboration within the school as well as with the College of Osteopathic Medicine, the School of Dental Medicine, and the School of Graduate Studies.

CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To promote and preserve the mission of LECOM;

  • Oversee experiential education for the School of Pharmacy at LECOM for the Florida Pathway and assist with experiential education for the Distance Education Pathway;

  • Set-up and run the annual IPPE and APPE match process;

  • Guide students who are struggling in experiential education;

  • Assist preceptors when needed and facilitate preceptor development;

  • Participate in the student Professional Development Program;

  • Teach students at the local campus and in the online distance education pathway;

  • Prepare demonstrations, lectures, small group discussions, and the selection of suggested and required reading from various sources, and coordinate these educational tools with other faculty members for students in all pathways;

  • Contribute to the planning and administration of the School of Pharmacy, including ensuring that all ACPE accreditation requirements for experiential education are upheld;

  • Interview prospective candidates for the School of Pharmacy;

  • Serve as advisor/mentor to assigned students;

  • Serve on committees as assigned;

  • Participate in faculty and professional development opportunities;

  • Participate in accreditation and other administrative functions;

  • Must be available for work during the hours assigned, for student instruction;

  • Must be able to take direction and receive assignments from the Associate Dean of Pharmacy;

  • Serve as the supervisor of the Clinical Education Coordinator;

  • Work closely and collaboratively with other Faculty and Staff in and on a variety of shared responsibilities, and ensure good communication with other administrative offices;

  • Faculty member will contribute and be responsible for overall student success, including, but not limited to, advising and student outcomes;

  • Faculty member will contribute directly to the Mission of LECOM embodying the essence of Osteopathic Principles and Practices by assisting with Institutional fundraising and participating in the LECOM Scholarship Auction;

  • Faculty member will participate in scholarly activity so to enrich and broaden the student learning experience;

  • Faculty member will commit to being a representative of LECOM by being actively involved in the community, including, but not limited to, serving on Boards, participating in community fundraisers and overall outreach; and

  • Accept other duties assigned/needed for the Institution’s needs.

Minimum Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Knowledge of student and patient’s privacy (i.e. FERPA, HIPAA…etc.);

  • Must maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials;

  • Follow proper OSHA and safety guidelines, and protect equipment (office, medical, facility);

  • Must be trained and certified on the Institutional Data System;

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships;

  • Be able to be flexible to accept other duties needed/assigned for the SOP;

  • The ability to work cooperatively and collegially with others, consistent with a workplace of dignity and respect and EEO rules and regulations;

  • Maintain an established work schedule as described in the professional contract;

  • The ability to report to work as scheduled, ready to devote full attention and energy to the important work of LECOM; and

  • The ability to accept work directives from managers and supervisors in a respectful and cooperative manner.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and experience equivalent to: a Doctor of Pharmacy degree along with residency training, fellowship training, or equivalent experience required. Candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Florida.

    In addition to the title Director of Experiential Education, the position will be appointed at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, based on the school’s established criteria.
