Sutter Health Patient Care Orderly/EVS Assistant II in Burlingame, California

Position Overview:

Under general supervision, with some latitude for initiative and independent judgment, decontaminates, cleans and organizes surgical suites and adjacent areas in the Surgery Department. Assists nursing staff with specialty tables, equipment, supplies and carts used in the department. Under direct supervision of nursing personnel assists in the care of patients as assigned. Able to be customer focused and provide and work collaboratively with all members of the surgical team.

Principal accountabilities include:

  • Removes all soiled linen, trash and suction equipment, using proper containment techniques.

  • Disinfects the operating table and attachments, patient transfer device, surgical equipment, lights and furniture (mayo stand, tables, kick buckets, stools, etc.) with the designated germicidal solution as outlined by EVS.

  • Disinfects operating room suite floors with designated germicidal solution as outlined by EVS.

  • After suite is cleaned, replaces linen on OR table, replaces trash / linen liners and places clean suction equipment so that it is ready for use.

  • Makes up transport gurneys/beds with clean linen.

  • Keeps all hallways in the department clear of excess equipment, etc. to maintain overall cleanliness.


  • High school diploma or equivalent/relevant training or work experience. Education sufficient to understand and convey verbal and written instructions concerning basic technical aspects of handling various kinds of instruments and equipment in the course of cleaning and retrieving storage.

  • Possession of skills and abilities to administer basic hands-on care to patients in a surgical setting acquired through previous experience or in-house training or training program

  • Knowledgeable regarding surgical equipment acquired through previous experience or in-house training or training program

  • Knowledgeable EVS workflow acquired through previous experience or in house training or training program.

  • Ability to work independently as well as under the direction of the surgical team

  • Basic Life Support Certification
