University of Virginia Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Medical Lab), Bone Marrow in Charlottesville, Virginia

This position that was created to work closely with the Hematopathologist Faculty to perform the following Bone Marrow functions:

• Reviewing AP outside referral cases by entering laboratory data into EPIC consult cases

• Perform the 500 cell differential

• Prepare for the weekly tumor board presentation

• Teaching residents

• Other assigned duties as needed

This position’s hours are Monday – Friday, 8am – 4:30pm (hours are negotiable). At this time, no weekend rotation is expected.

  • Performs Patient and Quality Control (QC) testing, develops skills and maintains competency in routine and assigned laboratory areas.

  • Maintains proper inventories and correctly uses supplies and reagents.

  • Performs advanced equipment trouble-shooting and equipment maintenance.

  • Ensures a smooth transition to the next shift.

  • Participates in quality safety and compliance programs.

  • Investigates documents and resolves problems or complaints.

  • Serves as trainer and role model for Clinical Laboratory Scientist 1 staff and health care professional students.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $27.84 - $44.54 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT); OR Associate Degree or 60 semester hours with 6 hours in Chemistry and 6 hours in Biology and Accredited MLT Training; OR Bachelor’s in Biology/Chemistry or related science required

Licensure: ASCP certification required within 24 months or military experience equivalent to the ASCP.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing, sitting for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping, reaching and repetitive motion. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
