University of Virginia Registered Nurse (RN)- 23-hr Observation Extended Stay-Nights in Charlottesville, Virginia

Join the Extended Stay Unit at UVA Health

Be part of our Phase 3 Extended Stay Unit (ESP), where we provide specialized care for low-acuity perianesthesia/perioperative patients. UVA Health is seeking dedicated clinicians to join our team and contribute to efficient patient progression through the perioperative department.

Unit Details:

  • Beds: 8 beds staffed daily, following staffing ratios recommended by the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses

  • Hours of Operation: Monday 0700 to Saturday 1900

  • Services: ESP is a 'fast track' observation unit for patients requiring lower nurse to patient ratios, facilitating rapid patient turnover. Most patients stay less than 23 hours.

  • Admission/Discharge Criteria: Patients slated for same-day discharge or an observation period post-procedurally, as defined by the primary team via order in EMR. Outpatient cases and inpatient admissions requiring a 1-night stay without significant comorbidities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide ongoing care for patients transferred from Phase I and Phase II levels of care in PACU.

  • Manage care and implement treatment plans in collaboration with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.

  • Seek and provide feedback for improved clinical practice.

  • Assume a beginning leadership role and seek mentoring in this process.

  • Consistently provides effective direct care to complex patients.

  • Manages care and implements treatment plans at a refined skill level.

  • Collaborates effectively with the interdisciplinary team.

Position Compensation Range: $39.90 - $53.00 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduate of accredited nursing program, Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.

Experience: 1 year of relevant experience.

Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
