Flight Operations Pilot Strategy

The Pilot Strategy team is currently looking for an individual who has a passion for strategic innovation, process improvement, and project management with the willingness to consider the details and the ability to assess the big picture. This role will require critical thinking and strong internal and external client relationships. As the Senior Manager of Pilot Strategy, you will own a portfolio of work around developing, implementing, monitoring, and improving the various programs, policies, partnerships, and technology necessary to expand United’s pilot pool. You will be responsible for identifying business opportunities within the programs. You will source, manage, and analyze program data to measure performance and support strategic decisions. You will coordinate with multiple United stakeholders including Communications, Creative, Marketing, Brand, Digital Technology, Travel Services, Legal, Learning, Talent Acquisition and Recruitment, Labor Relations, Flight Ops Training, and Crew Resources to ensure program alignment and ultimately contributing to partners’ and programs’ ability to bring quality pilots to United Express and United. Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evolution of the various Pilot Strategy programs (Aviate, United Military Pilot Program, and United Pilot Program at SkyWest), policies, technology, partnerships, and coaching programs

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the aviation industry to identify, propose, develop, vet and implement policy changes and program additions

  • Ensure consistency and alignment of policies across all initiatives

  • Evaluate program status and performance through collection of relevant data and performance metrics

  • Perform data analytics to model and forecast participant throughput to support United Express and United pilot needs

  • Own partnership sourcing and engagement strategy including coaching and mentoring programs

  • Create and deliver presentations of program updates and metrics to key stakeholders and leadership

  • Own technology experience and development to ensure adequate platform functionality and data availability to meet program objectives

  • Support communication and education of program details across internal and external stakeholders

  • Support Aviate marketing, branding, social, public relations and communication efforts

  • Support partner organizations through guidance on program administration, policy updates, engagement, feedback, data, and insights.

  • Ensure standardization of program execution across partners

  • Attend industry conferences and events to maintain deep knowledge of competitive environment and promote programs

  • Lead and foster career development for a team of four high-performing managers

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant work experience in Aviation/Aeronautics, Engineering, Business, or related field

  • 5+ years of professional experience in project management

  • 3+ years of data analytics experience or related field

  • 3+ years of airline/aviation business experience or related field

  • Organization skills and multitasking abilities

  • Strong communication and presentation development skills

  • Has knowledge of project management tools and techniques

  • Familiar with data analytics

  • Possesses solid communication, multitasking & analytical skills as well as project management capabilities

  • Able to coordinate inter-departmentally in reliance upon both quantitative and qualitative analysis

  • Seeks and pursues strategic solutions while ensuring day-to-day execution

  • Traveling up to 10-25%

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

  • Master's degree (MBA)

  • Consulting in the areas of management and/or strategy

  • Airline/aviation business experience

  • Pilot/flight training experience

  • Military experience and/or familiarity (not required to have served)

  • Understands pilot training processes and key drivers of professional skills development
