The Opportunity
This position is responsible for providing oversight and leadership in the Pressroom. The Manager ensures the timely production of quality products that meet or exceed customer expectations, proactively manages departmental metrics that impact cost (downtime, make-readies, run speed and waste), and ensures compliance with all company policies and procedures and foster a team atmosphere, providing vision, and demonstrating support of the company’s core processes. The Manager is responsible for day-to-day management through the management of supervisory staff, including achieving production goals, managing performance of direct reports, making sound operational decisions, solving problems, and managing conflict.
How you will impact WestRock:
Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications and operating or production issues
Revises production schedules and priorities as result of equipment failure or operating problems
Consults with engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment to improve production and quality of products
Identifies, documents, and drives departmental metrics for Productivity, Safety, Quality, Waste and any other metrics required by the company
Ensures compliance to all company policies and procedures, continually participating in company LEAN manufacturing training and audits
Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment
Ensures staffing is appropriate to meet workload requirements and productivity standards
Conducts on-time performance reviews of supervisors and employees. Ensures direct reports have professional development plans and that those plans are executed in the timeframes specified
Leads effective shift meetings
Manages the screen-printing process to include working knowledge of silk screen process, types of ink formulations for all patented special processes
Demonstrates working knowledge of comp room
Maintains inventory of ink, blankets coatings, flexo ink and other supplies
Maintains inventory and ordering screen printing inks (both UV & Solvent)
Maintains inventory and ordering of various materials for patented special processed
Performs other job duties as assigned
What you need to succeed:
Minimum 3 years’ supervisory experience
Must have strong technical knowledge of sheet fed press operations
Must have the ability to foster team work and motivate individual performers
Must be able to relate effectively with others at all levels of the organization
Intermediate computer skills needed
Must have effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Must have the ability to champion and lead change within the department and facility wide
Must identify with and support company leadership and decisions
Must have good mechanical aptitude
Must be able to perform all essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation
Must have high school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.); Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university preferred
