Purpose

  • Investigate and solve problems related to water quality and regulatory compliance applicable to a variety of settings including production agriculture, industrial and construction stormwater, irrigation water conveyance and water storage.

  • Use knowledge, training, background and experience in water quality to monitor and identify solutions to a variety of problems in both urban and agricultural settings.

  • Interact regularly with clients, vendors and analytical laboratories.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Perform work under moderate supervision. Receive direction on moderately complex assignments, tasks, and execution. Work is frequently reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound techniques and principles. Review work produced by junior staff for quality assurance.

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Work effectively with other departments and with employees at all levels.

Do the Work

  • Carefully operate field equipment and instruments.

  • Perform biological monitoring.

  • Generate and log detailed field notes and data collection sheets.

  • Perform basic calculations related to sampling data.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent commensurate experience required.

  • Associate's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Geology, or related field preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Geology, or related field a plus.

  • Up to five (5) years of relevant industry-related experience.

  • Knowledge in the operation and use of field equipment, which includes, but is not limited to, water quality testing equipment (pH, EC, turbidity, etc.) 4x4 trucks, compass, tablet, range finder, etc.

  • Strong electrical/mechanical aptitude

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Must hold a valid state driver's license and successfully pass a motor vehicle check.

Desirable Credentials:

  • SWRCB QSD, QSP and QISP; CSM, CDSCP CESSWI

  • 24- or 40- hour Hazwoper

  • DPR QAL/QAC

  • CDBW boater's license

  • First Aid and CPR

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Primarily outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.

  • Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Frequent and prolonged use of data collection equipment and/or drones, necessitating walking the assigned study area to complete data collection over the course of several hours.

  • Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.

  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 51-100 pounds.

  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 51-100 pounds.

  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.

Salary and eligible variable compensation (if any) commensurate with experience. Range $25 - $35 hourly and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
