Position Overview

A Front Row Seat to Innovation The Behavioral Health Specialist is a critical role in the psychiatric care of patients. This position also serves as a system-wide resource, providing direct patient care and safety including supervision and management of children and adolescents. The psychiatric emergency department provides triage services 24 hours a day to patients suffering from a range of mental health and behavioral disorders. Our primary purpose is to increase patient stability for transfer or discharge. Primary responsibilities of Behavioral Health Specialists are initial psych triage with ongoing watches to monitor the well-being of our patients. In addition to assessment other responsibilities are patient de-escalation and team leadership. Front line intervention for psych patients Interacts with multiple disciplines across the hospital. Please note: The Behavioral Health Specialist may begin their shift in one unit and based on a change in census and acuity be reallocated to a different unit to meet operational needs. However, it is also possible for the Behavioral Health Specialist to experience extended periods of time in one department to offset long-term absences through the Months Program Make an Impact Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree with a minor in psychology or related field Equivalency: Professional relevant experience may substitute for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Certification(s): Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR certification Patient Stabilization Patient Safety Patient Triage Patient Monitoring Experience preferred Job Highlights: Provides direct patient care and management of children and adolescents while under the direction of a registered nurse or licensed psychiatric professional. Leads, monitors and collaborates educational and therapeutic groups for patients. Participates in clinical rounds, maintains communication with unit or department leadership. Responds as part of the Behavioral Assistance Resource Team; provides assistance to patients, family members or visitors 18 years of age and younger exhibiting the potential for harm to self or others. Ensures proper documentation of patient progress; completes 15-minute patient checks; provides one-to-one patient observation and or milieu management..
