Responsibilities Serving as a Environmental Protection Specialist GS-0028-11/12 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is within the Environmental and Safety Branch (ESB), Facilities Management Division (FMD) under the Mission and Readiness Support Directorate (MRSD) and located in Glynco, Georgia. Typical duties include: Coordinates and prepares environmental studies, investigations, and reports, and prepares agency reports and facility specific reports required by higher headquarters or regulatory authorities. Defines requirements, develops scope of work, and manages a variety of environmental service contracts and agreements. Identifies and characterizes hazardous wastes, toxic substance wastes, and hazardous materials constituents using a variety of technical tools, including lab analysis. Develops courses and instructs both staff and contractor employees in environmental knowledge and skills. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Please limit your resume to 5 pages. You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess one of the following: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the federal service responsible for assuring the implementation of environmental protection policies and programs that embrace a range of subjects directly or indirectly concerned with the management of the welfare and protection of people, property and the environment. OR Successful completion of a Ph.D. or an equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited college or university that is directly related to the work of the position, OR Successful completion of three full years of higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph. D from an accredited college or university that is directly related to the work of the position, OR Successful completion of an LL.M., from an accredited college or university that is directly related to the work of the position, OR An equivalent combination of specialized experience and graduate level education. (Only graduate in excess of first 36 semester hours may be combined with the specialized experience). MUST provide a copy of transcripts. GS-12 Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal government: responsible for assuring the implementation of environmental protection policies and programs that embrace a range of subjects directly or indirectly concerned with the management of the welfare and protection of people, property and the environment. All qualifications and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement. Work Environment: Regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness such as high noise levels, high temperature, humid or wet conditions, irritants, toxic waste, chemicals and fumes. Physical Demands: Considerable walking, standing, bending, and/or climbing while working in the field or performing inspections. Incumbent may be required to operate equipment and/or wear personal protective equipment (PPB) that is hot, bulky and uncomfortable. The work requires average agility and dexterity. The position may be required to make frequent official trips to satellite training facilities, and occasional travel to DHS headquarters in Washington, DC.
