Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board Medical Office Assistant in Hampton, Virginia

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pm

Since 1971, the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided a comprehensive continuum of high-quality, essential, and community-based services to citizens of the Peninsula who are affected by mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders.

The Medical Office Assistant (MOA) handles phone calls, emails and correspondence on behalf of the Division Director. The MOA runs services reports, stats, chart audits and assists in the writing of various required reports. MOA assists the Adult Outpatient Medical staff with routine nursing assessments and screenings of clients either on the phone or in person. Tracks PCP follow up and labs as ordered by the Physician. Completes Program discharges and prepares related documents and records. Check patient's vital signs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepares reports, memos, and presentations as needed.
  • Performs chart audits and makes corrections as deemed necessary.
  • Provides assistance to other staff to include obtaining health records and assisting with problem solving issues as they arise.
  • Organizes events, meetings, conferences, and trainings for staff.
  • Explains general program medical and drug screening procedures to individuals served.
  • Facilitates medication management appointments with the medicine prescriber, before, during and after.
  • Take medical histories.
  • Provides routine supportive counseling to clients in the course of medical assessment and treatment.
  • Makes routine assessments of client behavioral and medical status, and report to clinical and medical practitioners on staff.
  • Performs basic drug screening on-site tests.
  • Assist with follows up on all medical concerns, including laboratory results and completes required documentation and reporting.
  • Completes prior authorization forms in a timely manner.
  • Does related work as required.

Requirements:One year of administrative and medical assistant experience, preferably in an outpatient practice setting. Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and familiar with an Electronic Health Record (EHR).

The selected candidate must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.
