RESPONSIBILITIES

JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Gathers, measures and analyzes data to ensure a timely, accurate and meaningful medical record to facilitate safe, effective and high quality patient care.

• Provides customer service to internal and external customers by answering telephones, routing calls to appropriate parties, fulfilling customer requests and attends to walk-in customers with professionalism.

• Communicates effectively with physician and other professionals regarding documentation requirements including medical record completion and software troubleshooting.

• Ensures necessary reports, signatures and other medical information are present and the record conforms will all regulatory requirements as well as policies of North Hawaii Community Hospital.

• Provides health information to offsite providers for continuity of care in accordance with departmental procedures.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Essential: Standing, sitting, walking, stooping/bending, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, squatting, twisting body, finer dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking, lifting, carrying, reaching above, at and below shoulders level/ repetitive arm/hand motions; static gripping of objects for prolonged periods, gripping of an object.

• Occasional: Pushing/pulling weight of 50 pounds of force with use of carts.

• Operates computer, copiers, telephone, facsimile, microfilm, typewriter and calculator.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.

• Subjected to noise/vibration from telephones, fax machines and any other equipment interruptions.

• May be exposed to communicable diseases and body fluids.

• Working environment is sometimes stressful due to handling multiple tasks at one time and dealing with patients and their families.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

• High School or equivalent education.

EXPERIENCE:

• Prior administrative/clerical experience, preferably in a health care setting

• Experience to demonstrate:

o Ability to operate a computer and printer.

o Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.

o Ability to read, analyze, communicate and interpret information and data.

o Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form.

• Keyboard and 10-key experience preferred.

• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
