(3) Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Maui High Performance Computing Center (MHPCC), Department of Defense High Performance Computing Modernization Programs Vanguard Center for High Performance Computing, located at the Maui Research and Technology Park (MRTP) in Maui, Hawaii.

Telework (from employees residence city and state) may be permissible subject to review and approval by Principal Investigator and RCUH. This position will conduct research under the University of Hawaii Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) Task Orders. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $5,000 - $10,000/Mon.

DUTIES: Performs Linux and Microsoft Windows systems support to include such tasks as operating system installation and maintenance, user account management, and data backup and recovery. Provides support for active directory, mail, name, blackberry, and file services. Provides system and application support to Department of Defense (DoD), commercial and educational projects. Provides technical support for the Vanguard Center for High Performance Computing (VCHPC) help desk and PC Support Group. Independently analyzes and resolves hardware and software problems. Develops and maintains documentation regarding VCHPC computing infrastructure. Maintains an understanding of leading edge, high performance computing technologies and operating systems. Communicates with computer hardware and software vendors to maintain an awareness of computational hardware and software technologies. Works closely with senior computational professionals in determining customer requirements and the effective application of VCHPC computer systems. Provides training for staff and users as needed.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

Bachelors Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physical or Engineering Science. (

Associates Degree from an accredited community college in Computer Science or related field, and at least of two (2) additional years of work experience which is equivalent to the duties of this job and has acquired the skills necessary to perform all job duties, or High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and at least four (4) additional years of related work experience equivalent to the job duties and has acquired the skills necessary to perform all job duties may substitute for a Bachelors Degree.).

EXPERIENCE

One to three (1-3) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of UNIX concepts and facilities; script languages (e.g., CSH and Perl); and C or C++ system utilities and architectural concepts. Knowledge of computer hardware and software problem resolution procedures. Knowledge of DoD security infrastructure methodologies. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems. Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with tools/editors, networking, programming, and Linux.

ABILITIES and SKILLS

Must be a U.S. Citizen due to Department of Defense (DoD) requirements. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Ability to provide basic Linux and Windows systems support in a multi-computer production environment. Ability to monitor and evaluate system-operating characteristics and to provide technical support. Skill in install tion, integration, and maintenance of operating systems, applications, and other software and hardware. Ability to provide instruction and training for other computational professionals. Ability to develop written documentation, write procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations. Ability to maintain hardware/software inventory and coordinate availability of resources. Ability to analyze, interpret, and solve complex problems.

Ability to effectively conduct work remotely (e.g., telework) as applicable. Post Offer/Employment Conditions: Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on a tier-3 background investigation to access classified information. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.
