Sutter Health Systems Engineer, 3 - Linux in Mather, California

Position Overview:

This is a senior technical position in the IS systems team. Provides in depth cross-platform server systems, systems engineering and integration leadership. Functions in a large and geographically diverse Windows, UNIX and OS400 cross-platform systems environment supporting critical business and clinical applications (7 x 24 x 365). Provides 3rd level support for incident management across all environments with a 7x24x365 availability requirement. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to specification, design, engineering, configuration, testing, and implementation of server systems hardware, operating systems, related subsystems, and application components running on multiple platforms. Includes and not limited to standard server operating systems, clusters and ancillary systems. Performs systems development, testing, integration, and engineering experience with secondary cross-platform engineering and implementation experience on Sutter Health approved operating systems (e.g. Windows, OS400, Linux, Aix, and VMS), and related enterprise server platforms. Leads cross functional collaboration and coordination. Identifies, analyzes, and has ability to lead design specifications, configuration, and installation activities on Sutter Health approved hardware, operating system software, application programs, peripheral equipment.


Practical experience in a like size company and industry as typically acquired in 6 to 8 years.

Proven expertise in the engineering, implementation, operation, maintenance, and support of a wide range of Server platforms.

Knowledge in Sutter Health approved databases (e.g. DB2, MS SQL, Oracle, and Cache), server operating systems (e.g. Windows, AIX, Linux, OS400, and VMS), Citrix, virtualization technologies (like HACMP, VMWare, and content switching), provisioning, monitoring and inventory tool sets (e.g. Tivoli, MS Systems Center, Opsware, and BMC), directory services (such as MS active directory) and messaging / communication technologies (such as MS Exchange and Office Communication Services).

Implementing and administrating TCP/IP-based services, including DNS, DHCP, HTTP, FTP, SSH, SMTP, print services, and other infrastructure components.

Provide daily, weekly, and monthly systems capacity and performance review and assurance to capacity management for accurate metrics reporting and Operating Systems.

Proven expertise around industry best practice standards in systems operations and engineering.

Work on multiple projects at the same time and deliver quality service.

Proven organization skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects and objectives in a rapidly changing environment.

Proven experience working independently as well as working in a team environment.

Possess strong oral, presentation, and written communication skills.

Articulate technical and user needs in a concise manner and easily understood by all.

Committed to providing exceptional customer service and responding to user needs in a prompt and courteous manner.

Maintain a high energy level and be willing to learn new things.

Demonstrated experience in the following engineering disciplines: troubleshooting, incident management, and contribute to single point of failure analysis.

Expertise in virtualization technologies.

Expertise of operational support of SAN and related network technologies.

Ability to lead major IS projects.

Expertise in project management.

Experience working with change management practices.
