Sutter Health Genetic Counselor Oncology in Oakland, California

Position Overview:

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for providing patients with genetic counseling.

Qualifications:

Education:

Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling is required.

Licensures and Certifications:

American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) is required.

Board certification or eligibility in genetic counseling by either the American Board of Medical Genetics or the American Board of Genetic Counseling preferred.

Experience:

Years clinical experience as a genetic counselor preferred as indicated below:

1-4 years Genetic Counselor I

5-14 years Genetic Counselor II

15+ years Genetic Counselor III

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Understanding of clinical applications and standards necessary to provide comprehensive, current genetic services and counseling

  • Familiar with input and data retrieval on computer database

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, good writing ability

  • Knowledge and experience in the area of teamwork with health professionals

  • Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin or Cantonese preferred
