The role you’ll contribute:

OurLegacy is designated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as the only organ procurement organization (OPO) in east central Florida and is accredited by the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) as a tissue recovery agency. OurLegacy's scope of operations extends to each of the following hospitals within the AdventHealth's Hospital system: Altamonte, Apopka, Celebration, Daytona Beach, Deland, East Orlando, Fish Memorial,Kissimmee, New Smyrna Beach, Orlando, Palm Coast, Waterman and Winter Park. Additionally, CMS has designated OurLegacy to provide organ and tissue donation services to all non-AdventHealth acute care and critical access hospitals and free-standing emergency rooms in the following counties: Brevard, Flagler, Indian River, Lake, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia.The Organ Procurement Coordinator (OPC) is the hub of the organ donation process and must be dedicated to supporting the mission of OurLegacy to provide the opportunity to improve and extend lives through organ and tissue donation for transplantation. Responsible for all aspects of organ recovery including making medical suitability determinations of all potential donor referrals according to OurLegacy protocol, collaborating with the medical and nursing staff of the above-named hospitals to ensure the pathway to donation remains viable, and requesting authorization for organ and tissue donation from the donor's legally authorized party in the absence of a donor directive. Directs ICU teams to achieve the protocol-driven clinical endpoints to optimize organ viability. Oversees the placement, surgical recovery, preservation, and transportation of organs. Assumes responsibility for the allocation of organs imported to the donor service area (DSA) when requested. Requires flexible hours with on-call responsibilities, travel within the service area, and working for extended periods of up to 24 hours. As a team member, the OPC actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Based on availability, a company vehicle may be assigned to team members in these positions and if assigned must be used at all times for business related purposes. If assigned a vehicle, no mileage reimbursement will be paid. Available company vehicles will be assigned to team members based on business need and location of the team member's home address.

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed :

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Position requires one of the following: RN, PA,Respiratory Therapist (RT), EMT-B, EMT-P, foreign medical graduate or previous experience as an OPC

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

• Current valid State of Florida or multi state license as a Registered Nurse, OR

• Current Florida License for PA, or RT, OR• Florida EMT-B certification, OR

• Florida EMT-P certification, OR

• Current Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator by the American Board for Transplant Certification within the prescribed periods allowed by the certifying body

Valid Florida Driver's License, Class D or E, and driving record in accordance with AdventHealth policy

Preferred Qualifications:

• Extensive critical care experience

• Trauma Center experience• Bachelor's Degree in health-related field• Public speaking experience

• Teaching / Precepting experience

• 3 years recent experience in donor management and organ allocation with a CMS certified OPO

• Ability to multi-task under stressful situations

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to work flexible extended hours providing 24-hour call coverage

• Ability to work independently in a stressful environment

• Strong planning / organizational skills

• Decision making aptitude and problem-solving skills

• Ability to travel within a 10-county service area

• Must have dependable transportation

The value you’ll bring to the team:

Assumes 24 hour on-call responsibility for consistent and timely response to organ donor referrals and to import organ offers for local transplant centers.• Provides family support and request authorization for organ and tissue donation in a sensitive and compassionate manner.• Ensures organs transplanted from OurLegacy donors meet CMS, CDC and OPTN safety standards. This includes ensuring all required infectious disease tests are performed on all donors; all specimens arrive at the designated lab are accurately labeled; the results of all tests are correctly transcribed into OurLegacy and OPTN electronic databases; and correctly received by transplanting centers.• Directs hospital physicians and nurses in all aspects of donor evaluation and management according to OurLegacy policies in concert with the OurLegacy Medical Director/designee. When barriers to testing exist, is capable of marshaling appropriate OurLegacy and donor hospital partners to address problems and implement solutions.• Communicates with OurLegacy team leader, director on call and medical director to assure all decisions are made with the goal of obtaining all possible transplantable organs and tissues from every donor.• Allocates organs according to OPTN policy. When barriers to policy compliance exist is able to address problems and implement solutions independently or identify resources to bring about solutions. • Oversees the organ donor surgical procedure to recover, preserve, label, package and transport all viable organs. The OPC is the leader of the organ recovery procedure.• Maintains timely, concise, accurate records of every aspect of the organ referral, authorization, evaluation, optimization, allocation, recovery, and distribution process.• Promptly reports and documents occurrences not consistent with policy, regulation, or law.• Provides the outcome of organ donation procedures to donor families, medical examiners, funeral homes, recipient transplant centers, donor hospitals, and tissue and eye banks• Collaborates with the Hospital and Professional Services Department in providing clinical education programs for nurses and physicians as needed.• Assist with training and orientation of new OPCs as needed.
