Sutter Health Surgery Scheduler I in Palo Alto, California
Maintains scheduling for surgical and specialized procedures for assigned department(s). Coordinates surgical services with physicians’ offices, and other related departments and may be required to verify room and equipment availability. Responsible for documentation of patient’s procedure, and physician information; logs the completed procedures; and may generate a surgical procedure charge sheet. Performs additional associated duties as requested by manager, while simultaneously ensuring the accuracy of the schedule.
Schedules surgeries and specialized procedures according to department protocols
Confirms scheduled surgeries against surgeons allotted times and may need to verify room availability, equipment and supply requirements
Schedules surgical procedures using organization’s protocols for scheduling block time or open availability and enters data into an established database
Organizes, reschedules and updates changes made to schedules, may need to provide follow up calls to patients and provide rescheduled dates\times
Coordinates open clinic times when physician does not have scheduled surgical cases
Documents all procedures scheduled accurately and according to department protocols
Ensures accurate coordination of authorizations prior to scheduled procedures
Collaborates with department staff and providers to ensure all necessary equipment and/or vendors are requested
Verifies and coordinates insurance eligibility and referrals for patients based on department requirements
Facilitates transfer of patients for appropriate services when needed
Performs other departmental support as assigned.
REQUIRED: high school diploma or equivalent; At least 6 months to 1 year of recent Patient Service Representative, back office medical assistant or hospital/clinical scheduling experience preferred.
Knowledge of insurance billing codes and medical terminology, preferred
Familiar with insurance companies procedures, and protocols, preferred.
