In this position, you will be a member of the Protective Services Division’s Electronic Security & Risk Management Group (ESRMG) and will report to the ESRMG Group Supervisor. Your primary responsibilities will be maintaining and upgrading the Laboratory’s Fire and Security communications systems including, but not limited to, Land Mobile Radio (LMR) and Satellite voice/data . In addition, you will assist with security cameras, access control, conference room, and the Emergency Communication Center.

Responsibilities:

  • Primary technician to maintain and upgrade Laboratory’s LMR systems including all Motorola portable, mobile, and K-Core (base stations, repeaters, antennas and transmission lines, voters, consolettes,) equipment and software . Perform all system programming, generate diagrams, and prepare system design documentation in accordance with industry best practices.

  • Apply best practices of Motorola’s R56 guidelines for infrastructure and subscriber installations. Document areas for improvement and prepare recommendations for ESRMG Group Supervisor.

  • Working with the JPL Spectrum Manager, maintain licenses for Protective Services Division Frequencies and mutual aid programming agreements/MOUs.

  • Maintain and ensure NTIA- and FCC-mandated standards for narrow banding and signal modulation on frequencies used.

  • Maintain all Satellite systems used by PSD and related divisions to include both handheld, portable data platforms, and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) systems.

  • Monthly testing of all LMR and Satellite systems and respond to any issues found during testing to ensure effective performance. Prepare monthly detailed, quarterly, and annual summary reports for ESRMG Group Supervisor review.

  • Identify, recommend, advocate for, and implement any improvements for LMR systems.

  • Work proactively with Automatic and Mutual Aid partner agencies to ensure up-to-date programming and fleet mapping for subscriber equipment.

  • Recommend and draft mutual aid agreements with partner agencies for ESRMG Group Supervisor.

  • Implement equipment replenishment schedule and proactively monitor equipment lifecycle to ensure adequate replacement program.

  • Apply concepts of electronics to interpret and apply electronic diagrams, blueprints and schematics.

  • Help with the installation and maintenance of other moderately sophisticated security equipment and electronic systems as needed.

  • Collaborate with other Laboratory departments as needed.

  • Team with the other members of the Electronic Security and Risk Mitigation Group to ensure seamless operation of related and complementary security systems and equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a High School diploma with a minimum of 8 years of related experience; Associates degree with a minimum of 4 year of related experience; Bachelors with minimum of 1 year of related experience; related required training.

  • Solid understanding of general job aspects of installation, maintenance, and systems with a focus on Motorola systems.

  • Strong understanding of assessing and troubleshooting equipment problems, repairing them if possible, or determining if equipment must be sent off-site for repair.

  • Detailed understanding of installing cable runs, cable splice/terminations, and connecting equipment to an existing electronic infrastructure and applies knowledge and skills in this area.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible to acquire a Secret Security Clearance.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong MS Office computer skills including Word, PowerPoint and Excel and familiarity with Visio, Paint, or CAD software applications.

  • Strong Motorola CPS, RSS, and CSS skills are highly desirable , and familiarity with the operation of standard LMR equipment including multimeters, oscilloscopes, communications service monitors, frequency generators, TIMS, and certain specialized Motorola test equipment.

The hiring range displayed below is specifically for those who will work in or reside in the location listed. In extending an offer, Jet Propulsion Laboratory considers factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s job related skills, experience, knowledge, and relevant education/training. Hiring range for this job may be adjusted based on primary work location outside of Pasadena, California. This adjusted range will be provided to candidates by the Recruiter when applicable.

$80,080 - $109,616
