U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command Medical Technician in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii

Summary About the Position: This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Responsibilities Maintain applicant's medical records during the examination process. Manage medical consultations to include verifying doctor's orders. In-process applicants, verify identity using previously captured biometrics (digital fingerprints and photographs). Assist applicants on completion of a variety of forms required for physical examination. Perform phlebotomy procedures to obtain blood samples. Review unique medical forms for proper format, coding and completion. Maintain control logs, custody logs and rosters, and treatment center referral list in accordance with regulations and policies. Monitor and maintain stock level of medical supplies and restock as necessary. Ensure safety requirements are met for the proper use, storage, and disposal of needles and medical equipment. Conduct standardized medical orientation briefings to applicants. Prepare packages and ship specimens to testing laboratory. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications This is an open continuous announcement, meaning that several vacancies may be filled throughout the announcement period. As applicants apply, a pool of candidates is generated. Once a vacancy occurs, candidates will be reviewed for qualifications and referred to the hiring manager for consideration. Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience for GS-06: One year of experience which includes 1) assisting with physical examinations (such as optical, audiometric tests, electrocardiogram, and/or urine collection/processing) of applicants/patients; 2) performing phlebotomy to obtain blood samples; 3) operating medical equipment (such as audiometers, stereoscopic vision testers, and/or centrifuges) for various types of medical examinations/procedures; 4) documenting patients' medical information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below: Education Substitution for GS-06: Successful completion of at least one-half year (9 semester hours) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field directly related to the work of the position to be filled, such as: Medical Technology/Technician, Medical Assistant, Nursing, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, or a related field of study. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification.) OR Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-06: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 9. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify. (You must provide a copy of your transcripts.) Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
