Direct Support Professional is responsible for assisting individuals in accessing community resources and supporting them in becoming members of their community, churches, service organizations, social and recreational functions, and family gatherings. Promotes, encourages and facilitates the individual's community experience and offers guidance with decision-making as appropriate and additional eyes, ears, hands and legs to ensure optimal experiences when active away from home.

• Provides guidance, instruction, training and observation for individuals in the areas of self-care, academics, housekeeping/laundry skills, meal preparation, social/leisure activities and community participation as outlined in the individual support plan.
• Provides protective oversight (supervision) and assists in planning and engaging in age-appropriate social and recreational activities for both the residential and community settings.
• Upon completion of the level One Medication Aide course, administers medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Encourages and assists individuals in planning and preparing healthy meals and snacks and following recommendations of their health providers.
• Accompanies individuals to health and medical appointments, obtaining written documentation of services provided.
• Manages and/or modifies individuals' maladaptives behavior by working with the individual and providing intervention as outlined in the Individual Support Plan.
• Performs housekeeping tasks as assigned to provide clean, safe, and healthy environment for individuals served.
• Preforms all other duties assigned to a DSP.
