Sutter Health Director, Emergency Services in Roseville, California

Position Overview:

The Director of Emergency Services provides overall leadership, direction and management of the Emergency Department, Pre-hospital Care Departments and is responsible for the emergency preparedness for the Medical Center. The Director has 24-hour responsibility for the management and operation of these departments. The Director contributes to the goals of the organization by developing and growing new business for the demographic region; representing SRMC and the service line in regional and system service line discussions, developing and controlling operational and capital budgets; solving potential and real problems that impede safe patient care; developing the personnel, physical environment and organizational systems needed to provide competitive and cost-effective services; acting as a liaison and public-relations representative between departments supervised, Emergency Medical Services and other Hospital Departments, medical staff and the community; designing competitive fee structures for services and supplies; controlling inventory of equipment and supplies for the services; and, is responsible for accomplishments of these goals by SRMC and the Department. Works with SRMC Foundation to generate contributions to support programs at the Medical Center.

Qualifications:

Education:

 Valid California Registered Nurse license.

 Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related field or equivalent combination of experience and

education.

 Master’s degree in an appropriate field is required.

Experience:

 5-10 years of demonstrated clinical experience in the appropriate area of specialty – Critical

Care or Emergency experience required.

 2-3 years of progressive management and director level responsibility is highly preferred.

 Proven experience at a leadership/management level.

 Proven success with licensing, accreditation, and re-accreditation of Emergency service is

preferred.

 Experience working in a "Unionized" facility highly desirable.

Knowledge:

 Must be knowledgeable about healthcare laws, including Title 22 acute regulations,

JCAHO accreditation requirements and clinical standards of practice.

 Must be familiar with various methods of care, delivery, productivity management,

management methods, and effective leadership/supervisory principles.

 Extensive knowledge of the major functions of Emergency Services, including but not

limited to the following:

 Budget and financial development

 New business development

 Problem solving/decision making

 Current clinical standards of care

 Liaison/guest relations

 Coaching and development

 Personnel management

 Materials/environment management

 Nursing department administration

 Self-development

 Collective Bargaining

 BLS-HCP or Greater Sacramento HCP required.

 ACLS required.

 PALS required.

 MICN required.

 CCRN or CEN preferred.
