Sutter Health Eligibility and Documentation Specialist - Senior Care (Full Time-Days) in Sacramento, California
This position acts as a community resource and primary point of contact for assisting individuals applying for benefits such as Medi-Cal and Medicare.This includes new applications and Medi-Cal redeterminations of benefits. This position requires the ability to project empathy over the telephone to gain the applicant’s trust and consent for application assistance, provide program qualifications and expertise to the applicant, and manage outreach to government offices to the point of disposition of eligibility determination.This position will include transporting prospective enrollees and enrolled participants in Sutter SeniorCare vehicles.Supports data collection and documentation of demographic information and for other projects, as assigned.This position requires an above-average ability to provide excellent customer service both to internal and external customers.
High Scholl Diploma required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Social Work, Public Health or comparable preferred.
A minimum of 1 year experience of working in a medical field or with a geriatric population preferred.
Experience working indirect assistance to individuals completing forms and applications dealing with financial information and/or public benefits required.
Experience specific to seniors groups and senior support organizations is preferred.
Excellent customer service to internal and external customers is required.
Knowledge of government benefits programs and other related social service programs required.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of Medi-Cal, Medicare, and SSI application and recertification and redetermination processes.
Knowledge of PACE enrollment/certification requirements is preferred.
Knowledge of current senior specific health-related problems and knowledge of programs and other resources for seniors, especially frail seniors.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to successfully communicate with elderly individuals and government personnel.
Must have excellent telephonic communication skills.
Must be able to take initiative. Must be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers, including leadership, employees, participants and their families, government agencies and other community organizations.
Must have the ability to quickly and easily establish rapport with seniors and their caregivers.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and general computer knowledge required.
Flexible, able to respond to rapidly changing situations and needs of potential enrollees.
