Sutter Health Housekeeping Aide-Surgical Services in San Francisco, California
This group of ancillary personnel is trained to perform environmental sanitation activities in the Surgical Services Department. The Housekeeping Aide, for Surgical Services performs routine environmental sanitation activities and departmental special projects housekeeping in the Surgical Services Department, including operating rooms, ensuring a sanitary, safe and comfortable environment for patients, visitors and employees.
The Housekeeping Aide must competently and swiftly clean surgical operating rooms and related equipment in the surgical room multiple times each day in a timely manner before and after each patient's surgery using special handling techniques required to clean operating room equipment or around operating room equipment.
The Housekeeping Aide must also balance routine special project cleaning or timeframes unique to Surgical Services Department.
Selects and maintains cleaning materials and supplies, and prepares solutions according to established policy and procedure (P&P).
Performs general cleaning between cases multiple times a day as needed, timely, efficiently and in accordance with Surgical Services Department policies and procedures. (See attached Surgical Services, Policy & Procedure 600.591.
Performs routine cleaning in assigned areas of Surgical Services.
Performs terminal cleaning at the end of each day as established in the Departmental P&P
Performs routine quality self-inspections of areas of responsibility and completes all assigned work.
Performance of all procedures within established department time standards.
Performs department specific assignments, including routine and occasional special projects.
Tracks and reports inventory, supply usage and needs. Maintains housekeeping storeroom.
Performs cycle cleaning as established in the P&P
Completes special projects as scheduled or as assigned.
Attends all scheduled training as required by Supervisor.
Performs required duties safely and in compliance with all regulatory requirements as directed.
Monitors, cleans and inspects equipment daily. Must know how to properly handle and competently clean surgical services equipment in and outside or operating room in timely manner.
Observes and reports the general need for repairs to equipment, furniture, building and fixtures.
Maintains all housekeeping storage areas as required and in compliance with all regulations
Helps promote an atmosphere for open communication between administration and staff effectively communicating with all levels of CPMC staff and Physicians
Receives work direction and functional supervision from a variety of CPMC staff and Physicians routinely throughout the shift and must be able to communicate effectively while promoting teamwork, effective working relationships and resolving conflict.
Reports problems or needed repairs to lead housekeeping aide or supervisor/manager in a timely and appropriate manner.
Documents workload as required including, terminal and cycle cleaning into appropriate log and maintain other documentation as required.
Utilizes good clean technique / universal precautions in his/her own practice:
Wears clean scrubs daily and personal protective equipment such as gloves, caps, booties, masks and eye shields when appropriate.
Dons clean gloves to perform cleaning duties within each O.R. suite or other area needing housekeeping services.
Does not cross-contaminate (i.e. does not wear soiled gloves outside of a particular O.R. suite or area, changes soiled or bloodied scrubs before moving to another area).
Promotes and maintains a safe working environment and ensures safe conduct in all aspects of job performance.
Disposes of infectious waste and biohazardous waste, according to hospital and governmental policies.
Adheres to all Medical Center policies and procedures (i.e. Administrative and Human Resources), practices safe work habits, and engages in good business standards and practices.
Maintains a high standard of personal appearance
High school diploma or equivalent required
One recent year OR experience required or one year EVS experience in a clinical hospital setting required
Knowledge of environmental cleaning in a surgical practice setting required
Must complete training and demonstrate required competencies
Good mental and physical health
Good verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills required
Ability to move fifty (50) pounds
Ability to operate floor cleaning machines
