Description:

  • Reporting to the Director of Labor & Delivery

  • Performs patient care duties delegated by the RN related to patients’ personal needs, comfort, and safety. Scrubs for surgical procedures and demonstrates competence while functioning as a member of the surgical team. Prepares and maintains supplies, instruments, and equipment related to surgical intervention.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that all equipment and supplies are available before starting a case. Gathers any missing supplies or equipment before scrubbing.

  • Assists circulating nurse in preparing the OR for a procedure.

  • Transports surgical specimens to the lab as needed.

  • Constantly monitors the location of all sponges and sharps in the sterile field. Performs sponge, sharp, and instrument counts with circulating nurse according to hospital policy.

  • Maintains strict aseptic technique. Maintains isolation standards.

  • Other duties as assigned

What you will need:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Completion of an approved technologist program or previous technologist experience of at least one year

  • Current certification as surgical technologist (CST) preferred

  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language

  • Visual accuracy, auditory acuity, ability to coordinate eyes and hands quickly and accurately.

  • Identify and distinguish color, temperature, texture, and size

  • Basic computer skills, to include data entry and retrieval

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds, as determined by the nature of the patient care unit. Must be able to push, pull, lift patients and equipment (e.g. beds, stretchers).

  • Must be able to bend body downward at the waist and be able to kneel.
