Who are we?

FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.

How you will make an impact

The incumbent of this position performs a wide variety of tasks associated with carpentry work and painting.

• Construct, install and repair cabinets, doors, shelves, windows, acoustical ceilings, door hardware, locks, plaster ceilings, walls, roofs, sheetrock, concrete, ceramic floor and wall tile, toilet partitions, etc.

• Keeps accurate records of attendance and work orders.

• Performs duties such as patching sheetrock and plaster on walls and ceilings. Prepares surfaces according to type of finish to be applied.

• Prepares and applies a variety of finishes with an assortment of different means.

• Operates pressure washing equipment.

  Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge and skills to safely use shop machines, power tools and hand tools

• Knowledge of carpentry techniques

• Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures

• Ability and skill to safely lift various objects when necessary

• Ability to follow written and oral instructions

• Ability to install, finish and repair sheetrock, plaster ceiling and walls

• Ability to lift 50 pounds (with or without assistance)

• Ability to operate pressure-cleaning equipment

• Ability to read and work from blueprints, drawings and schematics

• Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired in CPR and CPI.

  Qualifications

  Two years of experience in maintenance, repair of buildings, plumbing, electrical or mechanical equipment. Vocational/technical training in industrial electricity can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for each year of required experience.

  Sign Language Requirements: Applicants who are selected for hire will beencouraged to learn sign language. Please note: FSDB provides education to acquire sign language skills.

  Hiring Salary Range: 12-month position, $33,850.96 - $36,850.96 annually. This range is inclusive of verified experience and education.

  Hours: Monday – Friday; 7:00am to 3:30pm
