This Opportunity:

We are looking for a full-time, fully registered Occupational Therapists (OT) with experience in pediatrics to join our amazing team in Toronto, Ontario . If you are passionate, high-energy, fun and have a child-like imagination to go along with your stellar assessment/treatment skills then this opportunity is for you! At MODC, we focus on the potential of our clients, while making programming fun.

The OT is responsible for the delivery of program curriculum, provide occupational consultations, assessments, and interventions to promote and facilitate the development of skills and behaviours essential to daily living and minimize the impact of disability on functional independence. This role will promote the development of sensory processing abilities, fine and visual motor skills, and self-help skills that support a child’s ability to function and socialize in their home, school, play, and community environments.

While most of the responsibilities will take place during regular operating hours on weekdays, this position may be required to work weekends as part of a 5-day workweek.

This role is part of the Charitable Operations - Skills Development & Employment department and reports to the Director, Community Programs.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of a new early learning program for children and youth (toddler to 12 years old) with disabilities.

  • Conduct functional and cognitive capacity evaluations and assessments, when required.

  • Plan for and address difficulties that children and youth may have with sustained attention, ability to transition among tasks or environments, performance of manipulative and handwriting skills, and independence with daily living skills including dressing, feeding and hygiene.

  • Develop plans according to the clients’ individualized needs in collaboration with the family and other professionals using a strength-based approach used for identifying client and environmental strengths for goal attainment.

  • Deliver and facilitate individual and group classes/camp programs in person andvirtually on a digital platform (e.g., Zoom, Teams, WebEx).

  • Create documents for program planning, prepare recommendations and rehabilitation plans, workplans and other.

  • Consult and collaborate with appropriate multi-disciplinary team members in the community.

  • Facilitate staff training and education for support network as required.

  • Peer review assessment reports, ensuring quality standards are met.

  • Refer and liaise with other agencies to address identified needs of the referred individual as appropriate.

  • Other duties, as required.

Qualifications and experience:

  • You must be a practicing and registered member of the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario and abide by membership regulation regarding clinical and ethical practices.

  • You have aMaster’s degree in Occupational Therapy and/or aBachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy with commensurable work experience.

  • Fully registered or soon to be provisionally registered OT.

  • You have demonstrated understanding of a variety of disabilities and the needs of people with disabilities.

  • You have experience working with babies/children, and youth who have experienced traumatic injuries and/or both neuro-typical and/or with special needs (e.g., Neuro-Divergent) and/or development differences within the Occupational Therapy setting.

  • You are knowledgeable in pediatric early intervention and sensory integration experience.

  • You are knowledgeable in trauma informed care and/or have experience providing care through a trauma informed lens.

  • You have a commitment to quality care and service delivery.

  • You maintain timely client notes and highly developed report writing and oral communication skills.

  • You have highly developed interpersonal skills, including mediation, negotiation, advocacy, consultation, and collaboration.

  • You can work independently and with team members.

  • You are respectful of individuality and diversity, build trusting relationships, demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to educate and enable clients and families.

  • You have a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.

  • Bilingualism is an asset.
