Sutter Health Director, Finance (Sutter Tracy Community Hospital and Memorial Hospital Los Banos) in Tracy, California
A full-service acute care facility serving the residents of Tracy for over 70 years, Sutter Tracy Community Hospital has a total of 79 inpatient beds. The hospital provides Basic Emergency Medical Services in a 14 bed E.D., inpatient and ambulatory surgical services, medical surgical, telemetry and coronary care, diagnostic imaging, laboratory and rehabilitation services, including physical, speech and occupational therapy. Areas of specialized care include a Pain Clinic, Wound Care and Continence Center, and a Family Birthing Center.
This position serves a part of the Administrative Groups for both Sutter Tracy Community Hospital (STCH) and Memorial Hospital Los Banos (MHLB). In this role, the Director of Finance provides primary financial support and input to the Administrative Group to ensure effective financial management of the facility and efficient use of financial resources. In coordination with Sutter Health and the CFO MMC/STCH/MHLB, this position also plans, coordinates, and develops the annual operating and capital budget for STCH and MHLB.The incumbent will analyze and evaluate operational performance of STCH/MHLB and develop, monitor, and revise standard costs, cost allocations and productivity standards for STCH/MHLB.He or she will coordinate special projects related to patient and facility-level costing. This position may also complete projects or manage processes at an Area level if requested.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelor's in either Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration w/emphasis in accounting (or other closely related field), OR equivalent education/experience.
Seasoned experience as would normally be expected from a minimum of six + years health care financial management experience, including multi-entity managed care and an integrated health care delivery environment is required.
Occasional travel between affiliates.
On-call/Standby hours as needed.
Master's in Business Administration (MBA) preferred.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Active participation as a member of the leadership team in a Hospital setting, including interactions with C-suite and Executive Leaders.
The candidate should have demonstrated experience working with a high-degree of independence. Experience in providing analytic support and maintaining cost-effective and long-term financial viability of health care operations is critical.
Prior experience demonstrating effective communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills is also required.
Prior experience developing and managing staff in the current competitive health care environment is also helpful.
Understanding of and experience with Lean or other process improvement philosophies and methodologies desired
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE :
Sound knowledge of managerial accounting, financial accounting, and decision-support systems and operational analysis.
Must have a thorough knowledge of a multi-entity integrated health care delivery system.
Extensive knowledge of the dynamics of health care financial relationships, to include physicians/facilities in a tax exempt environment; managed care environment, including capitation; private inurement laws; anti-trust laws; Medical fraud and abuse laws.
Must have a thorough understanding of GAAP and process costing in a health care environment.
In depth working knowledge of healthcare departments emphasizing an understanding of finance, planning, physician relations, and a strong working knowledge of patient care and human resources.
