    Position Summary:

    To provide clinical oversight, supervision and training of Behavioral Health Systems and Policies to Behavioral Health Staff in the Methodist Emergency Department. To ensure staff are completing timely and accurate documentations, evaluations, assessments and billing for services provided to Behavioral Health patients in the Methodist Emergency Department. To ensure quality patient care, referrals, placements and throughput of Behavioral Health patients who arrive at the Methodist Emergency Department.

    Qualifications:

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Master's Degree in Social Work or Master's Degree in Counseling CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) Illinois upon hire and Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI Training) within 3 months. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Previous leadership experience as manager or supervisor overseeing staff and programs And Previous experience working with behavioral health patients in crisis settings SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Advanced reading, writing and oral skills Ability to respond appropriately to customer/coworkerInteraction with a wide variety of people Maintain confidential information Ability to communicate only the facts to recipients or to decline to reveal information Ability to project a professional, friendly, helpful demeanor Ability to utilize PC including, basic elements of Windows environment, keyboarding, work with mouse, and perform basic computer tasks with instruction. Ability to evaluate patients to determine appropriate level of care. Ability to conduct patient assessments to determine appropriate level of care.

    Essential Functions:

  • DEMONSTRATES THE ABILITY TO ASSESS, PLAN, FACILITATE AND EVALUATE PATIENT CARE.* Demonstrates clinical competence when caring for a wide variety of complex patients through expert assessment skills, manual and technical skills, and critical thinking abilities.* Demonstrates the ability to stay on the cutting edge of clinical practice in the respective unit.* Demonstrates the ability to utilize evidence-based practices within the area of specialty.* Uses baseline/ongoing patient data from all sources to assist in the development of an individualized plan of care.* Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to identify potential barriers and variances to the plan of care.* Collaborates with the care team to recommend referrals and resources of other disciplines of the care team as necessary to meet patient needs (social work, therapy, wound care, behavioral health etc.).* Collaborates with Manager, providers, staff and pertinent members of the care team to promote efficient throughput of the ED.* Demonstrates ability to recognize, evaluate and assist in the implementation of solutions in resource consumption and throughput issues.* Participates in the care of complex and high acute patients within the department.* Manages and mentors in crisis situations.* Demonstrates ability to delegate and oversee care processes.

  • ASSISTS IN THE PROFESSIONAL GROWTH/DEVELOPMENT, CLINICAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS, AND CRITICAL THINKING ABILITY OF NURSES AND ANCILLARY STAFF.* Recognizes individual and unit education needs based on trends, quality standards, observation, and care gaps.* Performs bedside mentoring and education on the spot when knowledge gaps or teachable moments are identified.* Provides feedback to staff on performance based on observation and chart review.

  • DEMONSTRATES PROFESSIONAL ACOCUNTABILITY AND LEADERSHIP* Provides clinical leadership to achieve desired patient outcomes.* Works closely and in collaboration with the Manager of Ancillary and BH services.* Holds self and others to high standards of professional practice and behavior.* Develops and maintains positive relationships between staff, physicians and other departments* Develops strategies to promote teamwork and collegiality.* Conducts shift report and makes appropriate bed and staff assignments.* Demonstrates ability to manage time, multiple priorities, and changing demands assuring work is completed.* Acts as a role model and demonstrates expertise in conflict resolution and negotiation.* Demonstrates creativity and innovation in approach to complex problem solving.* Evaluates and communicates input on the professional practice environment and unit process effectiveness to the Executive Director of Community Services, Emergency Department Nurse Director, Nurse Manager. and Manager of ED Ancillary and BH services.* Continuously evaluates staff performance and provides input to the Executive Director of Community Services.* Provides timely and ongoing feedback on patient, provider, and staff issues to Executive Director of Community Services, Nurse Director and Nurse Manager.* Monitors patient flow Issues and assists with problem solving and resolving these Issues by collaborating with the Manager of ED Ancillary and BH services, Nurse Director, Nurse Manager, and Executive Director of Community Services.* Assists with unit audits as delegated.* Provides input with the development of protocols/standards/practice guidelines/plans of care as necessary.* Assesses patient status for safety and establish preventive measures as needed.* Assesses environment and unit processes for patient safety risks and assists the Manager of ED Ancillary and BH services in the establishment of plans and interventions to reduce risk (falls, wounds, nutrition, NPSG compliance, etc.)

    • Continued professional development on best practices for providing services in Emergency Department to Behavioral Health patients.* Continued education of community based services along WI
