Description

POSITION:

Under immediate (Rad Tech), direct (Rad Tech PDP I or II), or general (Rad Tech-PDP III or IV) supervision prepares and positions patients for radiographic and fluoroscopic examinations, makes exposures, and performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal quality images for interpretation by the radiologist in an accurate and timely manner.

Distinguishing Characteristics

The Per Diem Pool (PDP) classifications are distinguished from the Regular classifications in that the incumbents in these classifications receive limited benefits. They will receive shift differential, standby and callback premium pay and will participate in the Ventura County Employees' Retirement Association if they are assigned a biweekly work schedule of 64 hours or more. Incumbents hired into these positions are not guaranteed any specific number of work hours per biweekly pay period, and management has the authority to relieve them from duty when there is insufficient work.

IDEAL CANDIDATES:

The ideal candidates will possess excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; strong communication skills, both orally and in writing; and the ability to establish effective working relationships with patients, physicians, and staff.

APPROXIMATE SALARIES:

Radiologic Technologist: $27.06 - $40.38 per hour

Radiologic Technologist- Per Diem Pool I: $30.74 per hour

Radiologic Technologist- Per Diem Pool II: $37.53 per hour

Radiologic Technologist- Per Diem Pool III: $44.33 per hour

Radiologic Technologist- Per Diem Pool IV: $47.74 per hour

NEW HIRE INCENTIVES: New hires may be eligible for a one-time New Hire Incentive of $1,500, subject to the applicable section of the SEIU 721 MOA 2022-2025 (https://vcportal.ventura.org/CEO/HR/MOA/docs/SEIU_MOA_2022-2025.pdf) , Article 38.

EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for educational incentive. This incentive may be 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% for incumbents in eligible positions based on completion of an Associate, Bachelor's, or Master's degree that is not required for the classification.

BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for bilingual incentive depending on the applicable memorandum of agreement and the needs of the department. In order to qualify for this incentive, incumbents in eligible positions must take and pass the applicable bilingual fluency examination.

SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL: An employee in this role may be eligible for an evening/night shift differential of 5% above their current base salary.

AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency – Ventura County Medical Center/Santa Paula Hospital

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Regular (including Temporary and Fixed-Term), Intermittent, Per Diem Pool, and Extra-Help vacancies. There are currently six (6) vacancies within the Health Care Agency - Ventura County Medical Center/Santa Paula Hospital.

NOTE: If appointed at a lower level, incumbent may be promoted to higher levels without further examination upon meeting the minimum requirements, demonstrating satisfactory performance, and in accordance with the business needs of the department.

Radiologic Technologist and Radiologic Technologist-Per Diem Pool I/II/III/IV are represented by the Service Employees' International Union (SEIU) and are eligible for overtime compensation.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

OPENING DATE: July 28, 2023

CLOSING DATE: Continuous and may close at any time; therefore, the schedule for the remainder of the process will depend upon when we receive a sufficient number of qualified applications to meet business needs.

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Radiologic Technologist/Radiologic Technologist- PDP I/II/III/IV

  • Prepares and positions patients for examination according to approved departmental procedure;

  • Operates X-Ray machines and related equipment to obtain diagnostic images;

  • Operates portable and special equipment in many areas of the hospital;

  • Operates image processing equipment;

  • Assists in maintaining files, records, and reports according to departmental policy;

  • Transports patients to and from the radiology department when necessary; and

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Typical Qualifications

These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:

RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST:

Current certification as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the State of California Department of Public Health/Radiologic Health Branch.

OR

For Primary Care Clinic Positions ONLY:

California Department of Public Health -Radiologic Branch Limited X-ray Technician Permit, including digital radiography, chest, extremities, and torso-skeletal.

Necessary Special Requirements for Radiologic Technologist:

  • Possession of valid CPR certification by date of hire.

  • Possession and maintenance of a Radiologic Technologist Fluoroscopy permit issued by the State of California Department of Public Health within twelve (12) months of hire.

For Hospital Positions ONLY:

  • Possession of a certification as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the State of California Department of Public Health must be maintained throughout employment in this classification.

For Primary Care Clinic Positions ONLY:

  • X-ray Technician Dual Energy Absorptiometry Limited Permit Preferred

RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST - PDP I:

Current certification as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the State of California Department of Public Health.

Necessary Special Requirements for Radiologic Technologist PDP I:

  • Must possess a valid CPR certification.

  • Must possess a valid Radiologic Technologist Certificate issued by the State of California Department of Public Health/Radiologic Health Branch.

  • Must possess a valid Fluoroscopy Permit issued by the State of California Department of Public Health/Radiologic Health Branch.

RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST - PDP II:

  • Graduation from a single two-year allied health education program that is patient-care related OR

  • Graduation from a program accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Professionals (CAAHEP) that specifically conducts programmatic accreditation for diagnostic medical sonography/diagnostic cardiac sonography/vascular technology OR

  • Bachelor's degree in sonography or vascular technology OR

  • Bachelor's degree in any major and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time clinical ultrasound/vascular experience. (NOTE: this experience cannot be used to satisfy the experience required below)

Necessary Special Requirements for Radiologic Technologist PDP II:

  • Must possess a valid CPR certification.

In addition, the certifications listed below are required for each specialty within the Radiologic Technologist-PDP series.

Mammographers:

  • Must possess valid Radiologic Technologist Certificate, Mammographic Certificate, and Fluoroscopy Permit issued by the State of California Department of Public Health/Radiologic Health Branch.

Computed Tomography Technologists / Magnetic Resonance Technologists /Interventional Radiology Technologists /PACS Administrator/Electronic Medical Record:

  • Must possess valid Radiologic Technologist Certificate and Fluoroscopy Permit issued by the State of California Department of Public Health/Radiologic Health Branch.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL CLASSIFICATIONS LISTED ABOVE:

  • Must be willing to work various shifts and on weekends.

  • Must be willing to work at two hospital campuses as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Working knowledge of:

  • Anatomy, physiology, physics and medical terminology as it relates to X-Ray/Fluoroscopy.

  • Adherence to HIPAA regulations.

  • Exam specific requirements when imaging neonates, pediatric and adult patients.

  • Skill in positioning patients for image acquisition.

  • Ability to perform routine and complex and/or specialty imaging services studies to include measurements of normal and abnormal pathology and detailed anatomical statistics. (Rad Tech PDP III

  • The Joint Commission requirements, National Patient Safety Goals and all pertinent regulations per modality. (Rad Tech PDP IV)

Demonstrated ability to:

  • Establish effective working relationships with patients, physicians, and staff.

  • Provide clear and concise explanations to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.

  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Proficiently perform exams requiring sterile field set-up and maintenance. (Rad Tech PDP III and IV)

  • Perform routine and complex and/or specialty imaging services studies to include measurements of normal and abnormal pathology and detailed anatomical statistics. (Rad Tech PDP IV)

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: For Hospital Positions ONLY:

Duties are performed in an acute care setting and include frequent lifting of and/or transportation of patients by wheelchair or gurney/stretcher; moving imaging equipment to patient’s bedside for portable studies and standing for extended periods of time; possible continued exposure to x-radiation scatter; and exposure to various types of infectious diseases, blood, body tissues or excretions.

Shift assignments may include VCMC and/or Santa Paula Hospital and day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday hours.
